An extreme kayak and road bike race to benefit ALS research and the Green RIver Access Fund
Saturday, April 19, 2008, Hendersonville, North Carolina

Rules

Paddling and cycling safety must be top priority of all participants.  Kayakers must be prepared to stop if river is congested, and bikers must watch for cars at all times.  This is a self-support race.  Don’t count on shuttle, safety, rescue, food, water, etc. on the course.  All racers must wear helmets.  Kayakers must have experience on the Green Narrows.

All racers must check-in and sign waivers at Wildnerness Cove.  Parking will be tight. Do your part to help. We hope to handle all kayak shuttles with trailers and TeamBiker drivers. Try to avoid abandoning shuttle vehicles at Gallimore Rd during the race so that you can enjoy the festival instead of running shuttle. Racers will start paddling from Big Hungry Creek in one minute increments.  There will be “traffic cops” notifying if it is safe to proceed into Gorilla or the portage eddie.  You must be prepared to STOP if there are caution flags above Gorilla.  If you plan to walk Sunshine, consider the portage on river right above Nutcracker.  Respect someone’s attempt to pass you.  Kayakers must paddle to the sand beach just after the bridge.
Cyclists must follow course loop around downtown Saluda.  Watch for cars, rocks, potholes, etc. Please slow down for sharp, downhill turn on Holbert Cove Rd.
