Jerry's Baddle is a dual sport race that began in 2006 to honor a good friend, Jerry Beckwith, who had been diagnosed with ALS. The race was born out of a desire to keep his spirit and passion alive by raising money to help fight the disease that took his life and to foster the community he loved.
In the past three four years, the event has raised over $35,000 for ALS research and over $11,000 for Green River Access Fund. The 2010 proceeds will benefit both NC ALS Catfish Hunter Chapter and the Green River Access Fund.
The 2010 Jerry’s Baddle will be similar to the past 2 years at Wilderness Cove Campground. One focus in 2010 will be encouraging attendees to stay at the campground after the race. We will start the race an hour later, and we will plan music and food into the evening. There will be no fee for camping. Instead of a silent auction, we plan to raffle larger boating or biking packages. There will be no socks or t-shirts this year, but every racer will get one raffle ticket and a Baddle mug.
